mmWave Presence Sensors Installed in Halifax — See Without a Camera.
mmWave radar technology detects breathing, posture and falls without producing any footage or recording. Installed in Halifax homes, bedrooms and senior care setups — monitoring without surveillance. Privacy completely preserved.
The Light Turns Off When You Leave. Not When You Stop Moving.
Standard motion sensors think a room is empty when you sit still for five minutes. You have experienced this — lights switching off while you are reading or working at your desk. mmWave radar detects the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe. A room with a person in it stays lit, heated and monitored regardless of how still that person is. This is what genuine presence detection means.
Presence Sensors That See Without Cameras — Installed in Halifax.
Detects you even when
you are sitting still.
Standard PIR sensors declare a room empty when you stop moving. mmWave radar detects micro-movements including breathing. Lights stay on. Automations stay active. The room is correctly identified as occupied.
No camera. No footage.
No privacy concerns.
mmWave radar produces no image, no recording and no video data. It simply detects that a person is present and their approximate position — making it suitable for bedrooms and bathrooms.
Fall detection for
elderly family members.
When posture suddenly shifts from upright to floor-level and stays there, the sensor triggers an alert to designated contacts. No wearable required. No camera in a private space.
Up to 10 people tracked
simultaneously.
Tracks position, posture and movement of multiple occupants in large rooms. Know which zones are occupied in real time for heating, lighting and security automation.
Half-metre zone
precision.
Define custom zones within a room — desk area, bed area, sofa area. Each zone triggers different automations. Fully configurable through the app after installation.
Works with lighting,
heating and security.
Sensor data feeds your full smart home system. Lights respond to real presence, not guessed occupancy. Heating adjusts to which rooms are actually in use. Security arms when all zones are clear.
How Presence Sensor Installation Works
Common Questions About Presence Sensors
mmWave radar has some ability to detect motion through thin walls. We account for this during placement and use exclusion zones to prevent neighbouring rooms from triggering false alerts.
Yes. This is one of the most valuable locations — especially for elderly monitoring or fall detection. No footage is produced, making it fully privacy-preserving.
Yes. The sensor tracks movement patterns and posture at human height. A cat or dog moving along the floor is distinguished from a standing or seated person.
After a configurable delay (default 60 seconds), an alert is sent to designated contacts by phone notification. A longer delay reduces false alerts from people sitting on the floor intentionally.
The sensor works locally. Alerts require an internet connection to reach your phone when you are away. Local automations (lights, heating) work even without internet.
Sensor Specs & Pricing
A single mmWave presence sensor professionally installed runs $350–$550 depending on the room size and integration complexity. Multi-room installations are priced per room.
We primarily install the Aqara FP400 and ALLIE by Arqaios systems, selected based on room size, ceiling height and required zone precision.
Motion sensors detect movement only — they fail when someone is still. Presence sensors detect that a person is in the room regardless of movement, using breathing and micro-movement detection.
In most cases yes. The Aqara FP400 is Matter-compatible and integrates with Apple HomeKit, Google Home and Home Assistant. We confirm compatibility during the free assessment.
Yes. Presence sensors work well in offices, meeting rooms and retail spaces for occupancy-based HVAC and lighting control — reducing energy costs in commercial properties.
