Why Businesses Use It
You can’t staff for traffic you can’t see.
Staff for real demand.
See exactly when people arrive, hour by hour, and schedule around it instead of assumptions.
Measure what changed.
Compare weeks, promotions, events and seasons side by side.
Stay under capacity.
Get notified when the number of people inside approaches the limit you set.
How It Works
Counted at your door, reported on your phone.
Main Street Store
● Counting · entrance online
Mounted overhead so it counts people crossing a line, in and out.
The processor turns movement into numbers. It is set up to store counts, not footage.
Live occupancy, hourly counts and a weekly email report.
View technical architecture
- Camera: a network camera mounted above the entrance, powered through its network cable (PoE).
- Processing: a local processor with an AI accelerator counts people crossing a virtual line in each direction.
- Data stored: counts per time period. Footage is not kept for counting; recording can be switched off entirely.
- Reports: hourly and daily counts, occupancy and weekly email summaries; CSV export for your own analysis.
- Integration: occupancy can trigger Home Assistant automations, such as HVAC or lighting by how full the space is.
- App: today, dashboards use Home Assistant. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Four questions to think about before you order
Not sure? That’s fine — we check them with you during the free assessment.
How wide is the entrance? Most single doors need one camera; wide or double doors may need two.
How high is the ceiling above the door?Mounting height decides the camera and its position.
Is there power and network nearby? The camera needs one network cable; we plan the route if not.
What do you want to compare?Sales, staffing, events or locations — this shapes the reports.
Privacy & data handling
The system is set up to keep counts, not pictures of people. Counting happens on the processor at your premises; no faces are identified and no footage is kept for counting. Count data stays on-site and in the reports you export. We recommend a small notice at the entrance that visitor numbers are counted. How IoTiq handles data →
FAQ
Questions about people counting.
How accurate is it?+−
At a single doorway it is typically very accurate. Busy, wide entrances and groups walking close together are harder, so we check accuracy against a manual count and tell you the result.
Does it record video of customers?+−
It is set up to store counts, not footage. Recording for counting can be switched off entirely.
Can it tell staff from customers?+−
Not by default. Staff entering through the same door are counted; we can exclude a staff-only door or a time window.
Can it connect to my sales data?+−
Counts can be exported for comparison with your POS so you can calculate conversion rates. Direct POS integration is quoted.
Is there a monthly fee?+−
No. Counting, the dashboard and reports work without a subscription.
Can it show how many people are inside right now?+−
Yes. Occupancy is calculated from people entering minus people leaving, with alerts near your limit.
