Why Kitchens and Clinics Use It
The cooler fails at 2 am. Nobody finds out until 7.
Every unit, all the time.
Continuous readings replace clipboard spot checks — including the hours nobody is there.
Act before stock is lost.
An alert the moment a unit drifts out of range or a door is left open.
Ready for the inspector.
Reports with minimums, maximums and every excursion, generated automatically.
How It Works
Logged in the kitchen, alerted on your phone.
Kitchen Cold Storage
● All units in range
Placed with the product, away from the door and the cooling fan.
Each unit has its own range and a delay so normal door openings don’t alarm.
Alerts go to the manager on shift, then escalate if nobody acknowledges.
View technical architecture
- Sensors: battery-powered Zigbee temperature sensors with external probes, plus door contact sensors.
- Power detection: an energy-monitoring plug or circuit check that notices when a unit loses power.
- Controller: a small local computer running Home Assistant that stores the log and checks limits on-site.
- Reports: monthly PDF with minimum, maximum and every excursion, per unit.
- Vaccine option: a dedicated vaccine-grade logger with a glycol-buffered probe, 0.1 °C resolution and calibration certificate, per fridge.
- App: today, alerts use the Home Assistant mobile app. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Four questions to think about before you order
Not sure? That’s fine — we check them with you during the free assessment.
How many cold units do you have?Walk-ins, reach-ins, freezers and display cases each get a sensor.
What limits do you use?Cold-holding at 4 °C or below is the usual food safety limit; freezers are set separately.
Who should get alerts after hours?Shift managers first, then the owner.
Do you store vaccines or medication? Those fridges need the vaccine-grade logger and your public health unit’s log requirements.
Privacy & data handling
Temperature, door and power readings are stored on the controller at your premises, not on an IoTiq server. Reports go only to the people you choose. The vaccine-grade logger may use its maker’s cloud service for records; we confirm this in writing before you order. No cameras or microphones are involved. How IoTiq handles data →
FAQ
Questions about cold storage monitoring.
Does this replace my manual temperature log?+−
Digital logs help meet inspection expectations, but check what your inspector requires. For publicly funded vaccines, many public health units still require twice-daily manual entries.
Why is the vaccine option priced per fridge?+−
Vaccine storage needs a glycol-buffered probe and a calibration certificate for each unit.
Will normal door openings set off alarms?+−
No. Each unit has a delay, so a door opened during service doesn’t alarm unless it stays open.
Does it work if the internet goes down?+−
Logging continues on-site. Alerts need a connection; cellular backup provides one.
Is there a monthly fee?+−
Core logging and phone alerts have no mandatory fee. SMS escalation and emailed reports are optional.
Can it monitor display cases and bar fridges?+−
Yes. Any cold unit can take a probe sensor.
