EV Charging & Off-Peak Scheduling

Charge the car without upgrading the panel.

A smart Level 2 charger that charges when it suits your rate plan and your solar, plus load management that slows charging when the rest of the house is busy — often avoiding an electrical service upgrade.

Why EV Owners Use It

A Level 2 charger can push an older panel past its limit.

Avoid a costly panel upgrade.

Load management slows charging when the dryer and oven are on, so the charger fits within your existing service in many homes.

Charge on your schedule.

Set a start time and a ready-by time, and charging happens overnight without thinking about it.

Use your own solar first.

With solar, charging can follow your surplus production before drawing from the grid.

  • Charger: a smart Level 2 (240 V) EV charger with scheduling, installed by a licensed electrician.
  • Load management: an optional CSA-approved EV energy management system. The Canadian Electrical Code allows it to be used in the load calculation, which can avoid a service upgrade; an electrician confirms this for your home.
  • Rates: we check your utility’s rate plan before ordering. Scheduling only saves money where your plan has cheaper hours.
  • Solar: charging from surplus production needs compatible solar monitoring.
  • Appliances: dishwashers, washers and dryers with smart scheduling can follow the same cheaper hours.
  • App: today, the charger’s own app or Home Assistant. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Outages

What happens if the internet or power goes out?

Straight answers, because this is exactly when you need the system to work.

SituationChargingApp & schedule
Power and internet working✓ Charging on schedule✓ Status and reports
Internet down, power on✓ Most chargers keep their last schedule! App changes wait for the connection
Power out✕ No charging✕ No
House close to its limit (with load management)✓ Charging slows automatically✓ Shown in the app
Sunny afternoon (with solar)✓ Charges from surplus production✓ Solar share shown in the report
Savings depend on your rate plan. Scheduling saves money only where your utility charges less at certain hours. We check your plan before you order and tell you if it won’t help — the charger’s convenience and load management still apply.

Electrical work is done by licensed electricians

IoTiq doesn’t do electrical work. A licensed electrician installs the charger and confirms whether load management avoids an upgrade in your home.

IoTiq’s device testing programme is in progress. Devices are not labelled “IoTiq Verified” until physical testing is complete and documented. See current status →
