Why People Use It

When help is needed, a phone isn’t always within reach.

One press, instant alert.

Contacts get a phone notification within seconds, with the location of the button that was pressed.

Someone always gets it.

If the first contact doesn’t acknowledge the alert, it moves to the next person on the list.

Silent when it needs to be.

Staff can call for help without sounding a siren or drawing attention.

1. A button is pressed

Worn on the wrist or a lanyard, or mounted where help is most likely needed.

2. The controller responds

The press is received on-site; a siren or chime sounds if you want one.

3. Contacts are alerted in order

Each contact gets the alert with the location; if nobody acknowledges, it escalates.

  • Controller: a small local computer running Home Assistant that receives presses and sends alerts.
  • Siren: optional; switch it off for a silent staff alarm.
  • Escalation: contacts are notified in order until one acknowledges the alert.
  • Alerts: push notifications to the contacts you choose; not connected to 911 or a monitoring centre.
  • App: today, alerts use the Home Assistant mobile app. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Outages

What happens if the internet or power goes out?

Straight answers, because this is exactly when you need the system to work.

SituationButton & sirenAlerts to contacts
Power and internet working✓ Press received, siren sounds✓ Alerts within seconds
Internet down, power on✓ Press received, siren sounds✕ Not until the internet returns
Power out✕ Stops — the controller needs power✕ No
With battery and cellular backup✓ Keeps working for the backup’s runtime✓ Yes, through cellular
First contact doesn’t respond✓ Works normally✓ Escalates to the next contact
Plan for the moment it matters. Without backup, alerts need home power and internet. For someone living alone, or a workplace where staff work late, add battery and cellular backup so a press always reaches someone.

Worn or mounted?A wearable button goes everywhere; mounted buttons are never misplaced.

Who responds, and how fast can they get there?Contacts should be people who can actually come.

Should it be silent?A siren helps at home; staff alarms are often better silent.

Privacy & data handling

Button presses, times and locations are stored on the controller at the home or workplace. Alerts include the button’s location and reach your contacts over the internet. No audio or video is involved. How IoTiq handles data →
