Why Businesses Use It
Keys get lost. Codes get shared.
No more rekeying.
When someone leaves, remove their access in one tap. No locksmith, no collecting keys.
A real record of who came in.
Every entry is logged with the person, the door and the time — searchable when you need it.
Hands-free when it matters.
Carrying boxes, wearing gloves, arriving in the rain — walk up and the door opens.
How It Works
The decision is made at the door, not in a cloud.
Main Entrance
● Door secured · terminal online
Staff add their face at the terminal — or choose a card or PIN instead.
Recognition and the unlock decision happen on the terminal, even if the network is down.
Logs and alerts sync to your dashboard whenever the network is available.
View technical architecture
- Terminal: a dedicated face recognition terminal with liveness detection and a built-in card and PIN reader.
- Door hardware: an electric strike or magnetic lock with its own power supply and a request-to-exit button, installed by a low-voltage technician.
- Decision: made on the terminal at the door, so entry keeps working without the internet.
- Data: face templates are created and stored on the terminal, not uploaded to an IoTiq server.
- Integration: entry events can trigger Home Assistant automations (lights on, alarm disarmed) and be exported for payroll.
- App: logs and user management use the terminal’s own management software today. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Four questions to think about before you order
Not sure? That’s fine — we check them with you during the free assessment.
What kind of door is it?Glass, metal or wood, and what lock it has today — this decides the lock hardware.
Is there power and network near the door? The terminal and lock need both; we plan cable runs if not.
Who needs access, and when?Number of people, groups and opening hours.
Will everyone agree to face enrolment?Anyone who doesn’t can use a card or PIN — nobody has to enrol their face.
Privacy & data handling
Face templates are created and stored on the terminal at your site, not on an IoTiq server. Entry logs record who entered, which door and when. Every person can choose a card or PIN instead of enrolling their face. Canadian privacy guidance expects organisations to explain why biometrics are needed, obtain meaningful consent and offer an alternative; we prepare signage, a consent form and a written retention policy before the system goes live. FAQ
Questions about face recognition entry.
Do employees have to use face recognition?+−
No. Canadian privacy guidance expects a meaningful alternative, so every user can choose a card or PIN instead.
Can a photo or a phone screen open the door?+−
The terminal uses liveness detection designed to reject photos and screens. No system is perfect, which is why every attempt is logged and denied attempts trigger an alert.
Can a regular security camera unlock my door when it recognises me?+−
We don’t set it up that way. Ordinary cameras can be fooled by a photo, so at home face recognition announces arrivals while the lock opens by code, phone or key.
What happens when someone leaves?+−
Remove them in one tap. Their access ends immediately and their face template is deleted from the terminal.
Do I need an electrician?+−
Door hardware is installed by a low-voltage technician. We arrange it and include it in your written quote.
Can it work as a time clock?+−
Yes. Entry times can be exported for payroll. See the Employee Access & Time Clock package for a dedicated setup.
