Why Rural Homes and Businesses Use It
The power goes out at night. You find out in the morning.
Know the moment it happens.
An alert when the grid fails and another when it comes back — even if your internet went down with it.
Watch what’s at risk.
Freezer and sump-area temperatures through the outage, so you know whether food or the basement is in trouble.
Make your solar work harder.
See production, storage and use on one dashboard, and keep a battery reserve for outages.
How It Works
Built to keep talking when the grid stops.
Rural Home
● Grid power · all normal
A power sensor notices the instant mains power drops.
The controller and cellular router run on battery backup and keep watching.
Power-lost alert, freezer and sump temperatures, and a power-restored alert when it’s back.

- Battery backup: a UPS sized for the controller and cellular router, typically lasting several hours; we confirm runtime in writing.
- Cellular backup: a 4G router that takes over automatically when the home internet drops; needs a small data plan.
- Sensors: a plug-in power-loss sensor and battery-powered temperature sensors for the freezer and sump area.
- Solar & battery: integration with compatible inverters and home batteries; support depends on the brand and model.
- Controller: a small local computer running Home Assistant; generator and priority-load control are quoted per home.
- App: today, the Home Assistant mobile app. The IoTiq app is in early access and is not required.

Know What You’re Getting
Clear about what it does — and what it doesn’t.
Your exact configuration, in writing
Before you order, your quote lists every device, its quantity, where it goes and which features it supports.
Manufacturer-backed hardware
Every device carries its manufacturer’s warranty. We tell you the warranty length for each one in your quote.
We integrate — we don’t install panels
IoTiq doesn’t install solar panels, home batteries or generators, and doesn’t do electrical work. We connect what licensed contractors install.
Setup
From your first question to a working system.
Tell us about your power. How often it goes out, internet type, cellular signal, solar, batteries or generator.
Receive your configuration. Backup sizing, sensors, integrations and total cost — in writing.
Install and connect. Plug-in outage kit; solar or generator integration with your contractor where needed.
Simulate an outage. We cut power to the kit and confirm alerts arrive over cellular.
30-day follow-up. We review the first real outage, if there is one, and adjust.
Four questions to think about before you order
Not sure? That’s fine — we check them with you during the free assessment.
How often does the power go out?Rural lines and storm seasons decide how much backup makes sense.
Is there cellular signal at the property? We check coverage for your address.
Do you have solar, a battery or a generator? The brand and model decide what can be integrated.
What’s most at risk in an outage?Freezer, sump pump, well pump or heating — those get sensors first.
Privacy & data handling
Power, temperature and solar readings are stored on the controller in your home, not on an IoTiq server. Some inverters and batteries also use their maker’s cloud; we confirm in writing which before you order. Alerts reach you over the internet or cellular. How IoTiq handles data →
FAQ
Questions about outage backup.
Will this keep my house running during an outage?+−
No. The outage kit keeps you informed. To keep essentials running, you need a home battery, solar battery or generator, which we can integrate.
How long does the battery backup last?+−
Typically several hours for the controller and router. We size it for your setup and confirm the expected runtime in writing.
Do you install solar panels?+−
No. We integrate existing or new solar and battery systems installed by your solar contractor.
Which batteries and inverters are supported?+−
It depends on the brand and model. We confirm compatibility before quoting.
